Celebrate Elgin’s iFest

The fourth annual International Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the city’s beautiful Riverside Drive Promenade, in downtown.

Elgin’s International Festival, also known as iFest, will bring together dozens of the world’s cultures showcasing traditions throughout the Greater Fox Valley of Northern Illinois.

iFest features music and entertainment, ethnic cuisine, children’s activities, a “world market” and cultural arts and crafts.

Love Elgin Day benefit

Hymns, Broadway hits, love songs and opera will fill Evangelical Covenant Church of Elgin, 1565 Larkin Ave., for a Love Elgin Day benefit concert.

The concert will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 30 at the church. Performers include Jeorge Homes and Divia Montell, Solange Sior, Mary Ellen Kanies Beckmann and Murna Hansemann.

There will be a silent auction, reception and freewill offering. Please bring used shoes of any size or condition.

Love Elgin Day provides free food and groceries to families finding it hard to make ends meet. The event is held twice a year and provides other help like free health screenings, car maintenance, haircuts, eye exams, clothing and lunch.

Love Elgin Day is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26.

Prescription drug drop off

South Elgin residents can drop off old or unused prescriptions from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29 at village hall, 10 N. Water Street.

South Elgin police participate in the Prescription Drug Collection Program, which is a national effort designed to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means to dispose of prescription drugs.

Acceptable medications must be in original containers or in other non-leaking containers and include: pills, salves, liquid medications in small amounts as well as unwanted needles and IV bags.

Unacceptable medications include aerosols, controlled substances, thermometers and medications from places or people who distribute medication.

Save the date

Kane County Treasurer David J. Rickert reminds taxpayers that the second installment of property taxes is due Sept. 1.

If you are a new or existing homeowner and need a copy of the bill to remit payment, you may print off a bill from the Internet by visiting: KaneCountyTreasurer.org or contact the Treasurer’s Office at 630-232-3565.

Taxpayers can make payment by: Mailing the payment to the Treasurer’s Office. Mail postmarked by Sept. 1 is considered on time.

Dropping the payment off in the property tax drop box, this is available 24 hours a day. The drop box is located behind Building (A) at the Government Center, 719 South Batavia Avenue, Geneva.

Make payment at a participating Kane County Bank.

Pay over the Internet by credit card or E-check (there is a convenience fee for this service).
