Kayak tournament: Extreme Kayak Fishing’s Summer Slam Part 2 is Aug. 22 south of the Pompano Beach Fishing Pier. Eligible species include wahoo, kingfish, Spanish mackerel, blackfin tuna, dolphin, cobia, African pompano, mutton snapper and gag, snowy and black grouper. SUP races: The RK Sunshine SUP Series paddleboard race, hosted by Island Water Sports, is Aug. 22 starting at 9 a.m. on the south side of Pompano Pier. The event features an open recreational 3-mile race and a 6-mile elite race, including buoy turns and a short beach run between laps, in different age and board divisions. Entry fee is $60. Safe boating: U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 34 has an eight-hour safe boating class Aug. 22 at Imperial Point Hospital, 6401 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale. The course encompasses seamanship, equipment and legal requirements, emergencies and navigation rules. Cost is $50 and there are discounts for multiple family members. Free admission: The National Park Service turns 99 years old on Aug. 25 and Everglades and Dry Tortugas National Parks are celebrating with free admission that day. Entrance fees at Everglades National Park will be waived at the main park entrance near Homestead and at Shark Valley. At Dry Tortugas, re-enactors will depict life at Fort Jefferson during the Civil War. Visit nps.gov.

Coral spawning: Captain Slate’s Scuba Adventures in Tavernier is offering nighttime dives to see corals spawning in the Keys. Reservations are being taken now for the dives, scheduled for Sept. 3-4. Park closure: The East Everglades Area of Everglades National Park will be temporarily closed to all access from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily, effective immediately. The closure encompasses all East Everglades land and facilities administered by the park that are accessible from SW 168 Street or SW 237 Avenue in Miami. The closure was enacted to ensure visitor safety following recent acts of vandalism, illegal dumping and environmental damage. Visit nps.gov/ever or call 305-242-7700.

Bonefish survey: Florida International University is conducting a survey of bonefish anglers as part of its Project Bay Bones to find out about their bonefishing experiences and figure out what is happening to bonefish and why the bonefish population appears to be declining. The online survey is for those who fish for bonefish in Florida Bay, the Keys or Biscayne Bay. Snakehead tournament: A JD’s Custom Baits Snakehead Round-Up is safe light to 2 p.m. Sept. 12 out of Veterans Memorial Park, 7044 NW 1st St., Margate. Entry fee is $40 per angler or $40 per two-person team. Payback is 100 percent, with first place winning $420 with 20 entries. Call 754-816-2248.
