I saw a thing on the news about Target being in trouble for having toys and some other products aimed separately toward girls and boys. How petty is this country getting? I think I’ll run over there and pick up a catcher’s mask for my daughter and a nice sundress for my son. Then I’ll wrap them up in a Confederate flag.

This goes to JK who stated that the Democratic Party has a jackass as a symbol. Did you ever think about Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump? Ouch.

I’d like to know why gasoline prices shot up another 40 cents a gallon or more in recent days. That makes an increase of 70 cents in two days in the Orland Park, Tinley Park and Mokena area. Who is benefiting from this price gouging? The government needs to step in. Otherwise, we’re going to get these guys out of office and get somebody in who’s going to do good for taxpayers. Why does the ordinary person who has to get by day to day have to be ripped off on gasoline?

The other day gasoline at a Shell in Oak Lawn was $2.56 a gallon. A couple of days alter, it was $3.19 a gallon. What’s going on? Bop’s refinery in Whiting is the problem? The refinery should suffer the consequences, not us. And Bop’s problem affect prices at Shell, Marathon, Cato and whoever? It’s disgusting how these oil companies are killing us.

I’m a concerned taxpayer with a question for Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel: Why can suburban public works crews and private contractors have one- or two-man garbage trucks when the city of Chicago needs three? Rahm has not addressed the waste in the Streets and Sanitation Department. The only people working alone are police officers.

To all the political leaders in South Carolina: It may be true that by removing the Confederate flag from in front of your Capitol you’ve appeased some racial and ethnic groups. But when election time comes, you’ll find that you have not pleased other groups. I think you’re going to pay for it on Election Day, I’m sorry to say.

Does anyone else think it’s funny that when gasoline prices were supposed to be falling down to around $2 a gallon, there’s a problem at one of the area refineries? This happens much too often. Every time gas prices start falling and the oil companies face reduced profits, one of the refineries has a problem. I think our government needs to get in and investigate this and take care of this problem. There’s definitely something unlawful going on.

How much is enough for Michael Jordan? You have money and you have fame. Now you’re suing the defunct grocery chain Dominick’s for using your name without your permission. Big deal. You should be flattered. Everybody knows you were great, so lighten up and let Dominick’s off the hook for using your identity in a print advertisement. It’s not like your name was on dog food. Mike, cut Dominick’s some slack and be a good sport like we all know you are.

U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk allegedly paid his home health care nurse illegally out of his campaign fund. I remember when he got out of rehabilitation. He said he was going to vote to repeal Obamacare. Of course, all of Kirk’s medical bills are paid for by the federal government with the great medical insurance that U.S. senators get, so he didn’t have to worry about Obamacare. But I have 7.5 months’ experience with rehab. I know what it cost for his rehab. Too bad we all don’t have a campaign fund to pay for our home health attendants.

I told you a month ago that Bernie Sanders would win the Democratic nomination for president. Now it appears that his opponent will be Donald Trump. So, for the first time in U.S. history, you will have a socialist on the left running against a bombastic buffoon on the right. I’m sorry, guys. You lose again. Bernie’s the next president.

Hello, residents of Hazel Crest. If you missed attending the recent Hazelnut Festival, you missed the best one ever. It was off the chart. A high five goes out to Mayor Vernard Alsberry and all of his staff that helped put it together. The entertainment was top notch along with free food, games and free T-shirts were given away reading, “I take pride in my community.” This is so true and what we all should be doing. I’m looking forward to a bigger turnout next year.
