Even though he was a terrible public servant and was convicted of misusing his powers in shakedowns (the most well-known being his attempt to sell the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama), Rod Blagojevich deserves an overturn of his conviction or a shorter prison sentence.

Did we dislike the man and think that he was rather oily throughout his term as Illinois governor? Sure! But that is no reason to sentence him to 14 years in prison. People are receiving far shorter prison sentences for more serious crimes. Fourteen years for trying to sell a Senate seat is unreasonable.

Give Blago a break!
