Let’s not get too excited about the Chicago Cubs. I’m not. After all, the team nickname is an acronym for “Completely Useless By September.” They are due for a slump that did not occur at midseason.

Regarding the negative comment about the Rev. Corey Brooks selling out the people of his parish, New Beginnings Church of Chicago: That is one of the most ridiculous statements I’ve read. I’d like to say something more negative, but I’m keeping the conversation clean. He is a very honorable person, a pastor who has looked out for the poor and deprived. Just because he took a position with the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority from Gov. Bruce Rauner doesn’t mean he sold out. That is so negative. Rev. Brooks is a very honorable person who takes care of his people and looks after the poor and helps them out every day of his life.

I agree with Lori from Oak Lawn, who has great ideas. She said to tax people who don’t live in Illinois but work here. I think that’s a great idea. If they don’t like it, they can quit, thus opening jobs for people in Illinois. Second, I think raising the state income tax on the wealthy is great. They seem to have extra money that they have nothing better to do with than harm poor animals or to join ridiculous clubs. They seem to have more money than they know what to do with, so I say go for it.

I am a witness that Obamacare is working. I went to South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest recently, and the waiting area was full of people. I used to be able to walk in and out within 30 minutes. Republicans still claim that they will repeal Obamacare, but it’s all in their dreams. The last count for enrollment was more than 11 million.

Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge. It is those who know little, and not those who know much, who so positively assert that this or that problem will never be solved by science.

To Annie from Oak Lawn: No, I’m not being duped by Gov. Bruce Rauner. It is you who cannot see the good he is trying to do. Yes, he has his agenda, and it’s to do good for Illinois. But you see it differently, through the eyes of the union. He does not want to break the union. Open up your eyes.

Dee, Oak Lawn

More on people complaining about what Gov. Bruce Rauner’s doing about the state budget: The state is no different than a person or family. You have a finite income, only so much money to spend, and if you spend more than you have, you’re in trouble. The state’s in the same situation. Cook County’s getting there. Chicago is definitely getting there. In Oak Lawn, where I live, we are rapidly approaching this situation. The governments have to understand they can’t keep spending money on frivolous projects.

Tom, Oak Lawn

When is Gov. Bruce Rauner going to catch on? We’re not falling for his tricks, thinking he’s going to do something to end unions. He wants to damage the unions’ power. We’ve got to watch out for this man. I’m sorry he got elected. Rauner, we’re on to you. We’re going to watch out for you. Thank God we have the Democrats. They’re not perfect, but at least they’re not near-billionaires who are out for themselves more than the people of this state.

I thought tinted windows in vehicles were illegal. Why don’t police enforce that law? If I were a patrol officer, I’d be very cautious approaching a vehicle when I couldn’t see inside. I’d have my gun drawn. What are they hiding from? I thought all police officers should be able to see inside a vehicle. You put the police at risk like that. Enforce the law — prevent tinted windows, protect our police officers.
