We need a primer on the pension problem. Almost every day we see some report, but we (or at least I) have lost the big picture.
I envision a several-page update on the problem: All you wanted to know about the pension crisis but were afraid to ask.
What is the history of pensions in Illinois? How did the problem develop? How do other states manage this? What are the various options regarding solutions? The pros and cons of these? Why are we still paying pensions when most private businesses are not doing this? What is the role of the unions? What are the salaries and benefits of the employees involved in this? How does this compare with the private sector?
