In his Sunday column, “The difference between Kim Davis and Charee Stanley,” Clarence Page sees a parallel between Stanley, who refuses to serve alcohol as a flight attendant, and Davis, who refuses to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, both citing religious beliefs for their actions. There’s only one problem with Page’s comparison: When Davis was elected, marriage had yet to be redefined by the court. Had Davis known she would have to violate her religious convictions by issuing same-sex marriage licenses, perhaps she wouldn’t have run for county clerk. Pretty sure ExpressJet Airlines was serving alcohol to its passengers when Stanley chose to convert to Islam.
