Here is a look at what some Southlanders have achieved in college, according to releases from the schools:
Clarke University
Students from the following towns were named to the dean’s list at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa, for the spring 2015 semester:
*Beecher: Sarah Crews.
*Burbank: Amanda Raschke.
*Calumet City: Helen Bisioulis.
*Frankfort: Kayla O’Brien and Shannon Roth.
*Monee: Allison Waliczek.
The list recognizes full-time Clarke students who have earned a 3.65 grade-point average or above, on a 4.0 scale, with a minimum of 12 graded hours.
Michigan Technological University
The dean’s list for the 2015 spring semester at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Mich., included:
*Samuel Kane, of Homewood, who is majoring in chemical engineering.
*Timothy Jackson, of Midlothian, who is majoring in mechanical engineering.
*Michael Schmitz, of Oak Lawn, who is pursuing a bachelor of science in theater and entertainment technology.
To be included, students must achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
Greenville College
Students who recently graduated from Greenville College in Greenville, Ill., include Andrea Freeman, of Country Club Hills, who earned a bachelor of science in digital media, and Amy Stoeckley, of New Lenox, who earned a bachelor of arts in urban and cross-cultural ministries.
University of Massachusetts Boston
Patricia Boland, of Evergreen Park, and John Hojek, of Oak Lawn, were among the 2,916 students from the University of Massachusetts Boston who made the spring 2015 dean’s list.
St. Norbert College
Graduating senior Alex Clemetson, of Flossmoor, was a student speaker at St. Norbert College’s commencement in De Pere, Wis.
Also, students from the following towns were among the 487 students in the 2015 graduating class:
*Alsip: James Blisk, who earned a bachelor of business administration.
*Calumet City: Jeremy Ballard, who earned a bachelor of business administration.
*Flossmoor: Alexander Clemetson, who earned a bachelor of arts.
*New Lenox: Mark Hoeft, who earned a bachelor of arts, and Matthew Owens, who earned a bachelor of science.
*Oak Lawn: Erin Melaniphy, who earned a bachelor of arts.
*Palos Heights: Leo Dignan, who earned a bachelor of business administration.
*Palos Hills: George Malliaras, who earned a bachelor of business administration.
Concordia University, St. Paul
Junior Adam Zmikly, of Lockport, was among the students named to dean’s list for the spring 2015 semester at Concordia University, St. Paul in Minnesota. This honor recognizes full-time (12 or more credits) students who have achieved a grade-point average of 3.6 or above.
University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point
Students from the following towns were among more than 2,600 undergraduate students honored by the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for attaining high grade-point averages during the spring semester of the 2014-15 academic year:
*Alsip: Leah M. Gerrity, who earned high honors.
*Frankfort: David J. Gent, who earned high honors.
*Oak Lawn: Kelly M. Mares, who earned honors.
*Orland Park: David J. Yff, who earned highest honors.
*Palos Heights: Michelle C. Murawski, who earned honors.
*Tinley Park: Alexandra F. Spiotto, who earned honors.
Full-time undergraduates who earned grade-point averages of 3.90 to 4.0 (4.0 equals straight A’s) are given the highest honors designation. High-honors citations go to those with grade-point averages from 3.75 to 3.89, and honors recognition is accorded to those with GPAs from 3.50 to 3.74.
Fontbonne University
Students from the following towns were named to the dean’s list at Fontbonne University in St. Louis:
*Frankfort: Catherine Mary Maschmeyer, who is pursuing a bachelor of arts in literary studies.
*Mokena: Anthony Matthew Prospero, who is pursuing a bachelor of science in mathematics.
Those on the list earned a grade-point average of 3.7 or higher upon completion of the 2015 spring semester.
Washington University
Nicolette Esparza, of New Lenox, was named an Annika Rodriguez Scholar at Washington University in St. Louis. Esparza, one of 24 Rodriguez Scholars selected this year, is a 2015 graduate of Lincoln-Way Central High School in New Lenox Township and is a freshman at the university.
The Rodriguez Scholarship is awarded to incoming first-year students of exceptional academic merit who show commitment to community service and a demonstrated ability to bring diverse people together.
The scholarship is named in honor of a young Washington University alumna who was killed during a flash flood while working for the Peace Corps in Honduras.
