SOUTH FLORIDA OFFSHORE: Capt. Mario Cote’ of No Vacansea had dolphin up to 15 pounds this week 16-17 miles out of Port Everglades Inlet. Capt. Skip Dana of the Helen S and Fish City Pride drift boats said lots of tarpon, jacks and snook were feeding on the mullet around Hillsboro Inlet. He said the snapper bite has been “really good.”
EVERGLADES/FRESHWATER: Capt. Alan Zaremba said isolated canals in the Everglades that don’t have access to the marshes are the best bet for largemouth bass. His anglers caught fish swimming Flapp’n Shads and 7-inch ribbontail worms in the lily pads. Topwater plugs were effective early in the morning.
LAKE OKEECHOBEE: Chris Kalbaugh and Kevin Roach caught five fish weighing 19 pounds, 6 ounces Saturday to win the Renegades Bass Club tournament on Lake Okeechobee out of Clewiston. Joe and Steven Timme were second with five fish weighing 19-5. Chris Crow and Fred Collida were third at 18-141/2. Roach had the big bass at 5-131/2.
SOUTH FLORIDA INSHORE: Good numbers of snook and some redfish were biting in the backcountry of Everglades National Park. Sea trout and mangrove snappers were biting in Florida Bay.
THE KEYS: Live bait was plentiful and anglers were using it to catch blackfin tunas at the humps. Fishing for dolphin has been good, with boats catching fish up to 20 pounds.
