Several performers from the Southland will be among those bringing the curtain down on Robert Joffrey’s “The Nutcracker,” which after 28 years will get a makeover for 2016, according to a release from The Joffrey Ballet.

A 24-performance engagement at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University, 50 E. Congress Parkway, Chicago, is set for Dec. 4 to 27, the release said.

Those dancing with The Joffrey Ballet company will include Ayvah Rodriguez, Faith Goitia and Abagail Uloswceh, all of Tinley Park; Jane Cleary, of Palos Heights; Abagail Dudich, of Oak Forest; and Delainey O’Brien, Alexis Marasco and Yiannis Ekonomou, all of Orland Park, the release said.

Ayvah, Jane, Delainey, Abagail Dudich., Alexis, Faith, Abagail Uloswceh and Yiannis will dance the roles of Snow Tree Angel, Mounted Mouse, Soldier, Polichinelle/Mouse, Show Tree Angel, Punch Doll, Party Girl and Polichinelle/Mouse respectively, the release said.

Robert Joffrey’s original choreography for “The Nutcracker” will give way next year to the efforts of Christopher Wheeldon, who earned a 2015 Tony Award for Best Choreography for his direction of Broadway’s “An American in Paris,” according to the release. Wheeldon is to re-envision a new “The Nutcracker” to debut in 2016, the release said.

Tickets for this year’s performances range from $32 to $136 and are available at The Joffrey Ballet box office in the lobby of Joffrey Tower, 10 E.
