Here’s a tip for anybody filing a workers’ compensation claim: Don’t shovel snow or do anything physically demanding that will draw attention. If you’re claiming you’re disabled from an injury at work and you’re caught doing something you’re not supposed to, you deserve not to get your claim. There are legitimate people injured on work sites that can’t get a dime. Then there are swindlers trying to get money for nothing. They’re doing volunteer work, picking up heavy objects, moving things from boxes, climbing ladders, going on roofs. Those people should be caught, have the book thrown at them and not be allowed to claim anything.
All presidents age in office. I’m almost tempted to vote for Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio simply to see him go from a young-looking 44 years old to an old man before our eyes.

Here’s to all of you baseball players, football players and basketball players with huge salaries: Try donating money to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Make a donation to help children with cancer. Spend some of your money at the right place. They need it.

Isn’t it tiring to watch the antics of professional football players virtually every time they make what’s considered an average play? You would think these guys would figure out that not acting like clowns would garner them more attention and correspondingly more respect.

In regards to the Tinley Park resident who commented on the salaries of the top 10 Tinley Park employees. Information on compensation packages for all employees is accessible on the village website. You can download the full report right to your smart phone. You will be astonished at the salaries and total compensation packages. They also list who is assigned a village vehicle (most being for police and fire departments). The public has access to all of this; you just need to look for it. All of this falls under the Village Compensation Report 97-0609.

In regard to the 2016 lineup of presidential candidates, one thing is clear. I have never seen a more displeasing assortment of contenders and pretenders. We have Bill Clinton’s wife, another Bush, 74-year-old Bernie Sanders, the scary Ted Cruz and Ben Carson, a gifted surgeon who’s completely ignorant regarding national and international issues. And then there’s the reprehensible Donald Trump. America is supposed to be the greatest country in the world, and this is the best that it has to offer?
It is so sad to see the inhumanity, intolerance and hate triggered by fear surface in so many Americans. And Donald Trump is the leader of this destructive movement. Mr. Trump, political correctness also means mutual respect, something you definitely lack. The only time I can see in history where refusing entry in this country would have made sense was when the Pilgrims landed. The natives of this land truly experienced hate and terrorism. Whether black or white, Jewish, Muslim or Christian, we are all the same, all equal, all deserving of the same rights and compassion. Save tomorrow by caring today.

More on the White House looking to expand background checks at gun shows and such: If I were to go to Hammond and buy a gun at Cabela’s, they could not ship it directly to me. They would have to ship it to their store in Illinois, and I would have to go there to pick it up and be subjected to a background check. I think what is going on here is that President Obama is trying to figure out a way of reducing gun availability. There is no reason to expand checks. They’re already in place. The government needs to make sure they’re followed and enforced.
