Oak Lawn police are asking residents in a part of town hit by a recent rash of burglaries to make sure their doors are locked and to report any suspicious activity.
The area stretches from Pulaski Road to Lorel Avenue, between 99th and 111th streets, Division Chief Randy Palmer said.
“We haven’t had anything in awhile, knock on wood. I don’t want to give a specific number of burglaries. It’s less than 10, but more than five, all in that specific area. So we’re targeting that area with saturation patrols,” he said.
Most of the burglaries or attempts have taken place between 4 and 10:30 p.m., from Tuesday to Saturday, with Friday seeing the most, he said. Some have taken place when residents were gone for only a few hours, he said.
“We have a lead on a couple guys who might be involved,” Palmer said, “but this could be a couple of crews.”
Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to call police at (708) 422-8292.
Police suggest that residents be on the lookout for suspicious subjects or vehicles near their homes, put lights on timers and ask trusted neighbors to keep an eye on their home if they plan to be away for an extended period.
