Fundraiser set for Aurora Noon Lions

The fifth annual all-you-can-eat pizza and pasta night fundraiser will be held by the Aurora Noon Lions Club Feb. 9.

The public is invited to the event from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Luigi’s Pizza and Fun Center, 732 Prairie St. in Aurora.

The menu will include pizza, pasta with meat sauce or meatless sauce, garden salad, gelatin with fruit and fruit punch.

Proceeds will benefit Lions vision- and hearing-conservation programs.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children ages 4 to 12. Children 3 years old and younger eat free.

Founded in 1922, the Aurora Noon Lions Club meets at noon on the first and third Mondays of the month at Luigi’s Pizza.

Habitat restoration day in Sugar Grove

A habitat restoration work day will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 23 at Bliss Woods Forest Preserve in Sugar Grove.

Volunteers are needed to help cut and stack small to medium invasive shrubs.

Interested people should dress in layers, bring gloves and sturdy, warm boots, event organizers said. Tools will be supplied. All people are welcome but children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Refreshments will be provided.

Batavia businesses to be honored

Seven Batavia businesses will be honored as Ole Award winners Jan. 29 at the Batavia Chamber of Commerce’s Inspire 2016 event.

The honorees are:

* Remodeling – Industrial: Challenger Lighting, 1400 Kingsland Drive.

* Remodeling – Industrial: Safety Supply, 1055 Kingsland Drive.

* Remodeling – Commercial: Wendy’s, 1905 W. Wilson St.

* Remodeling – Commercial: Crosstown Pub, 1890 Mill St.

* New Construction – Industrial: Aldi Inc., 1200 N. Kirk Road.

* New Construction – Industrial: Chicago Expert Importers, 1229 Pierson Drive.

* New Construction – Commercial: BP Pride Oil, 200 N. Randall Road.

Four other businesses will receive special awards. The nonprofit Valley Sheltered Workshop at 325 Main St. will be honored for the remodeling of its kitchen with the Fabric of our Batavia Lives award.

Three businesses will receive Green Awards for their environmentally conscious projects. Businesses to be honored are Advanced Disposal at 1660 Hubbard Ave. for a natural gas fueling facility; Lutheran Social Services at 200 N. Island Ave., for solar panel installation; and AGS Technologies at 951 Douglas Road for upgrades to injection molding equipment to enable the use of recycled plastic.

Inspire 2016 will begin at 6 p.m. at Lincoln Inn Banquets, 1345 S. Batavia Ave., Batavia. General admission tickets cost $75; tickets for members and guests are $40. Societal problems to be discussed at Aurora University

“Addressing Societal Problems without Overreliance on Punishment” will be explored at Aurora University Jan. 27.

Brandon Kooi, Aurora University associate professor of criminal justice, will speak at 7 p.m. in Perry Theatre, 349 S. Gladstone Ave. in Aurora.

The public is invited. Admission is free.

Kooi will explore political obstacles to addressing crime and disorder.
