Stuart Zisook is a long-time Northbrook resident who recently moved to Glenview after marrying Barbara Benjamin. He’s retired from the insurance business, and previously was a city planner in Seattle and Chicago.

Q. Where did you grow up?

A. South Shore.

Q. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A. I had no interest in a vocation.

Q. Do you have any pets?

A. A puppy, 21/2 years old, named Ajax. His mother was a German Shepherd. His father was probably a golden retriever. He thinks he’s a human. He likes standing more than four legs.

Q. Do you play any musical instruments?

A. A CD player. My mother was a musician, my father was a musician (Seymour H. Zisook was a cantor at Congregation Agudath Achim South Shore and Skokie Central Traditional Congregation.)

Q. What’s your favorite restaurant?

A. It used to be Fat Rice, at Diversey and Sacramento, a very upscale restaurant. The owner is Portugese and his wife is a Macauan. It’s gotten too expensive. (What about lately?) Rickshaw Republic (2312 N. Lincoln Ave., also in Chicago) Very good Indonesian.

Q. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?

A. I’d like to go to northern Europe, the Benelux countries; Barcelona, Portugal.

Q. What’s your favorite charity?

A. I’ve been giving to WFMT, KING-FM – a classical station in Seattle. I identify with Seattle. I lived there 15 years, got my PhD (in urban planning) from the University of Washington in Seattle.

Q. What’s the most amazing thing you’ve ever seen?

A. Mt. Rainier, from any place in Seattle, is amazing. Coming into Seattle and seeing it from an airplane is pretty awesome.

Do you have any words of wisdom?

A. No.
