Considerable sunshine is expected Wednesday over northeast Illinois, but gusty northwest winds will continue to flow across the waters of southern Lake Michigan, bringing accumulating snow to the Michiana snow belt area. Riding those northwest winds, cold air from northern Canada will be directed into the Midwest and western Great Lakes, including the Chicago area. Single-digit temperatures and subzero wind chills will greet Chicagoans early Wednesday morning. Even with considerable sunshine, readings will struggle to reach the middle teens during the afternoon.

Cold high pressure will likely dominate the remainder of the workweek, reinforced by another cold surge Saturday. The bulk of the snow looks to pass to our northeast and southwest for the next few days with the next chance of accumulating snow Sunday into Presidents Day.
