Rosary to host Fine Arts Dinner Theatre

Rosary High School’s annual Fine Arts Dinner Theatre is set for Feb. 20 at the school, 901 N. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora.

The show’s theme is “An Evening with Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim,” and features performances from Rosary graduates, current students, choirs and orchestras, Marmion alumni and the Marmion Men’s Choir.

Socializing begins at 5 p.m. in the Rosary foyer, dinner is at 6 p.m., and the curtain opens at 7:30 p.m.

Dinner for adults and students includes spinach salad, Chicken Vesuvio with oven roasted potatoes and green peppers, cheese lasagna, meatballs, grilled vegetables with balsamic vinegar, petite dinner rolls, and a dessert buffet. Soft drinks and water are included, and a cash bar with beer and wine will be available. The children’s meal includes macaroni and cheese, carrots, applesauce, and a petite dinner roll.

Dinner theatre tickets must be purchased in advance and are $30 for adults, $20 for Rosary/Marmion students and staff, and $15 for children (with a children’s meal). Show-only tickets are $10. Doors will open for show-only patrons at 7 p.m. Dessert will be served to all patrons following the performance. Tickets are available at www.rosaryhs.com/dinner_theatre.

This year’s event will feature original pieces of art by Rosary students, raffle baskets, and auction items. This event is sponsored by the Rosary Fine Arts Boosters and proceeds will go toward Rosary fine arts programs.

West Aurora Concerned Citizens to meet

The West Aurora Concerned Citizens group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 17 at Washington Middle School, 231 S. Constitution Drive in Aurora.

The guest speaker will be Berenice Martinez, Community Outreach Liaison with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.

Martinez will discuss consumer fraud, including credit card fraud and identity theft.

4-H plans youth workshops

Kendall County 4-H is planning three interactive art workshops during the week of March 21 including fused glass, jewelry and stamp art.

“We have three wonderful classes available to help youth explore their artistic side,” said Kim Eisnaugle, University of Illinois Extension 4-H program coordinator. “Sessions will be led by experienced community volunteers and each will provide hands-on experience with skill development in mind.”

Techniques explored in the workshops include: nipping and designing fused glass, braiding for Japanese jewelry, and stamping techniques of masking and scene building. The Fused Glass Nightlights workshop will be 9 to 11 a.m. March 22 in Yorkville, and the Glass Kumihimo Bracelet workshop will be 9 to 11 a.m. March 23 in Yorkville. The Art Basics with Rubber Stamps class will be from 1 to 2 p.m. March 24 in Morris.

Batavia Youth Baseball to host banquet

The Batavia Youth Baseball will host a banquet to celebrate its 60th anniversary at 7 p.m. March 5 at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark in Geneva.

Current and past coaches, board members, participants and volunteers are encouraged to attend the banquet to share in the history of the group and look to the future of Batavia Youth Baseball.

Proceeds of the banquet will go to scholarship and financial aid programs for youth players as well as to fund fields and facilities.
