Seton Academy students deserve chance to save school
When we first heard the Chicago Archdiocese was planning to close Seton Academy at the end of the school year, we were taken by surprise. As a parent of a Seton student, I am very proud to send my child to a school where I know they will have a great education and be well-prepared for college. The planned closure of Seton puts this all in jeopardy.
One of the things that made me want to send my child to Seton is the strong emphasis placed on community service. Seton students take part in many activities aimed at helping the community and local residents. If Seton closes, it will be felt throughout the whole community. This could have a negative impact on all of South Holland.
When the Archdiocese closed other schools, parents were given the opportunity to try to raise money or make plans for their children to transfer to other schools. We were not given this opportunity and we feel it is unfair the way these plans were sprung on us. Our children deserve the same chances that were given to other students throughout the Chicagoland region.
For these reasons, the parents of Seton Academy have joined with local leaders like state Rep. Thaddeus Jones in circulating a petition calling for a delay of the closure of our school. We want to have the same opportunity to save our school long enough for our children to graduate and continue to their college education beyond high school.
Please take a moment to lend your name to our petition by calling 708-862-5541 or by sending us an email with your name and address to parentsofseton@gmail.com. If you would like to learn more ways to help the students of Seton Academy, please give us a call.

Closing Palos Fitness Center a shame
The Palos Health and Fitness Center is a 15-year-old, fully equipped facility in excellent condition. It is used by almost 5,000 community members for physical conditioning and rehabilitative purposes. The Palos Community Hospital proposes to totally demolish this beautiful building and deprive its members of an important part of their lives.
This is heartbreaking. Shame on Palos Community Hospital.
