Lake County residents can find plenty of ways to show their love for family and friends at various indoor and outdoor activities planned for Valentine’s Day weekend. Here are five designed for various ages.
Valentine’s Day Jazz and Sweets

The West End Jazz Band will perform favorites and standards while the Friends of the Library will sell cookies and other baked goods.
Sweets for Sweetie
When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday
Where: Lambs Farm, 14245 Rockland Road, Libertyville

Lambs Farm will transform its Magnolia Cafe into a boutique with items to select as gifts to parents, spouses, friends and siblings. Adults and youngsters can decorate heart-shaped cookies for $3 each or decorate pretzel rods with chocolate and sprinkles for $1 each, then handcraft a Valentine’s card and packaging to present to someone special.
Sweetheart Pancake Breakfast
When: 8 a.m. to noon Sunday
Where: Gurnee American Legion, 749 Milwaukee Ave.
Tickets: $5-$7; children under age 5 are free

Bring a sweetheart for breakfast with pancakes, eggs, sausages, biscuits and gravy, plus purchase some baked goods to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Shakespeare on Love

Loyola University professor Verna Foster will talk about Shakespeare’s depiction of love in the relationships of Romeo and Juliet and other couples from his play as well as how their romantic stories have been adapted to address cultural concerns of our own times. Adults only.
Romantic Night Hike at Ryerson Woods
When: 7:30 to 9 p.m. Sunday
