Columnist Ted Slowik says in his column, “Sorry, no excuses for not voting.” Yeah, with this year’s candidates, that’s like asking you if you want to get typhoid or cholera.

Again for the record, President Obama makes friends with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Russia takes over part of the Ukraine. Then President Obama makes friends with Iran and releases billions of dollars, and they buy more than 100 airplanes and thousands of cars from France. Next, President Obama ignores Syria and Russia building an airstrip. Now China is friends with Obama and China is building an island in the South China Sea. Please, Mr. President, stop making friends. We can’t afford it.

So the crime rate is out for the month of January. The shootings and murders are double. I guess former Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy wasn’t doing such a bad job after all. So much for blaming him. The whole thing boils down to the people in Chicago. They’re shooting each other in certain areas, and there are the gangs. The only one who could do anything about that is themselves. You have to stop the gangs, and the parents have to get more involved with raising the children. Your so-called ministers could also help. But you were wrong blaming Supt. McCarthy, and I hope you feel bad about it.

Recently District 210 Superintendent Scott Tingley told residents of the district should be ashamed of themselves for questioning the use of school property for day care centers. Personally I think it’s a great idea. Other school districts have done the same for years. The only difference is they charge the day care operators for the use of the facility. Letting someone use your building to run a business rent-free is not fair to the taxpayer or the other similar businesses in the area. The current contract should be terminated, not looked into or evaluated. Even though he claims he doesn’t know how many children are enrolled in the program, or much else about it for that matter, Tingley can’t put all the blame on the former superintendent who set up the deal. He’s known about this for years. Shame on district residents for questioning this program? No, shame on you Mr. Tingley.

I applaud Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel for standing up to Gov. Bruce Rauner. Rauner’s not out for the everyday person. He’s just all out to bust the unions. Rahm is right. If Rauner got to work and got a budget settled, Chicago Public Schools’ problems would be over. There’s no need for him to step in or for CPS to file for bankruptcy. Get back to work, Rauner, instead of trying to bust the unions, which is what you’ve been doing every day you’ve been in office. We don’t need a governor like you, and I’m counting the days till you’re out.

I think it’s a shame the way commenters are picking on Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. I’d be willing to bet you the men don’t appreciate smart women. I think they’re threatened that a woman is smart, and smarter than them. Hillary has got the experience. The press picks on her and the Republicans pick on her, but she stands on her own. She has the experience to run the country. After seeing what Gov. Bruce Rauner has done to this state, I certainly don’t want another businessman to run the country. The state is messed up enough for me. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is not the one. Go Hillary.

These supporters of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump remind me of the Brownshirts in pre-Nazi Germany. As a commenter said, Lord, we need that like a hole in the head.

About prison reform for residential burglary: The people doing residential burglary should be given a 20-year prison sentence without parole. Residential burglary is not a low-level offense. People’s lives are in danger during a residential burglary.
