I am so tired of hearing how we need to give more money to low-income kids so that they can go to college. I don’t hear anyone calling for giving monetary help to the two-parent, hard-working, so-called “middle-class” families that cannot afford to send their children to college now that schools like the University of Illinois are costing more than $120,000 for a four-year degree. What about those families? Is there something about working families that makes them ineligible for help? Don’t they vote Democrat enough?

Did Tinley Park send the second mailing of oversized postcards for the next public meeting about the former mental health center site, because we may missed the smaller version inviting us to the planning for the 183rd and Oak Park Avenue property? Yeah, right.

We think it was very disrespectful of President Obama not to attend Justice Scalia’s Funeral.

Saw a recent interview with ex-baseball player Barry Bonds. As you might know, Barry was found guilty of using illegal steroids to enhance his baseball prowess. What I noticed during the interview that was interesting was that Barry looked considerably lesser in size than his playing days. Considering that I’m overweight, I wonder what weight-loss program he’s using.

What is with these politicians, like Rubio after his loss in South Carolina? He and his supporters — Congressman Trey Gowdy, Gov. Halley — holding their hands above their heads, dancing around and pandering on the stage in front of the cameras, for what? Second place?

I disagree with the commentor in Friday’s Southtown who said Palos Hospital is a for- profit hospital. Palos Hospital was founded by an order of Catholic nuns as a not-for-profit hospital. Because of soaring medical costs, patients without insurance and partial payments by Medicare and Medicaid, hospitals have a difficult time breaking even. I do agree that financial decisions play a big role in the decision to tear down the fitness center and build a cancer treatment center in conjunction with Loyola Hospital. But the building is only 15 years old and recently millions of dollars were spent to remodel it. What a shame.

It seems like what these Republicans running for president are saying is we have to reinstitute the draft to go to war over in the Middle East. With all the things that they want to do, and those bombs that Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz want to drop, those things cost a million dollars apiece. Our economy is in the sewer already. How much longer do they think we could keep this up?

When I first got into the stock market, they said lower oil prices are good for the economy. Now we have lower oil prices and, yet, the stock market is tanking and, out of nowhere, President Obama wants to put a $10 tax on every barrel of oil produced in the United States. Now please don’t tell me what’s going on has anything to do with supply and demand. This is insider politics, insider wheelin’ and dealin’, and we’ll never know the truth about what’s going on with the price of gasoline.

It’s really surprising. I watched the Republican debates and all they seem to do is bad-mouth each other. We have no idea what their plans are except that they want to go to war. Other than that, they want to do away with Medicare, Social Security and Obamacare. At least with the Democrats, you know what they’re talking about or planning on doing. The whole thing’s just a joke.
