Orland Fire Protection District investigators were trying to determine the cause of a Wednesday evening fire that caused extensive damage to an Orland Hills home, the district said Thursday.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m., district personnel responded to a fire at 9225 W. 162nd St., and fire crews encountered heavy fire in a rear bedroom and throughout the attic, the district said in a news release.

The people inside the home got out before firefighters arrived, and there were no injuries, but the house is uninhabitable, the district said. The fire was brought under control in about an hour, according to the release.
