If the Republicans in the Senate can refuse to even hold hearings on a nominee for the Supreme Court using the logic that the next president should nominate someone, what’s to keep them from doing the same after the election? In today’s hyper-partisan politics, the election cycle starts earlier and earlier. Do they have a cutoff number for the amount of days left in a president’s term that they will still advise and consent? If they can ignore their responsibilities now with a little less than a year left on our current president’s term, what’s stopping them from doing the same with three or four years left? Scary stuff.
