Mild weather came to an abrupt end late Monday as a front passed across the area, shifting winds off Lake Michigan and ushering in sharply colder air. Under mostly sunny skies, temperatures through midafternoon were more typical of April than the end of February. Some locations across the south suburbs approached 60 degrees. At O’Hare International Airport, the temperature fell from 50 degrees at 3:51 p.m. to 36 by 4:08 p.m. Similar drops were observed throughout the area. On Tuesday, a wave of low pressure is forecast to track along the front to our south, spreading a swath of snow and sleet across the Midwest and Great Lakes. Cold air is then expected to dominate into the weekend, with chances for more snow Thursday and Saturday.
