Unfortunately, I have a family that is interested in the Oscars. Thus, I was subjected to some of the most biased rhetoric I ever heard on a TV awards show. The Oscars reliably demonstrate that most of the “movie types” are not particularly intelligent when they are outside their comfort zone. It is unfortunate that the show was “hijacked” by social issue zealots. To see an in-show audience being obtusely accused of social injustice and viewing them laughing with glee at the commentary shows how profoundly clueless they are.

House Speaker Michael Madigan is running for state representative from the 22nd District here on Chicago’s South Side. If anybody in this state has the lunatic idea of voting for him, then Illinois deserves exactly what it gets from him: complete bankruptcy and unemployment.

There is no shortage of resignations in Tinley Park. The mayor resigned in June, the public works director in July, and now at least a half-dozen planning commissioners have made sudden departures. The once “Best Place to Raise Kids” has apparently become the “Best Place From Which to Get Out of Town.”

I was watching “The McLaughlin Group” recently. There were five guys talking about the most stupid things in the world. They were talking about Pope Francis and mentioned immigrants who are here illegally. How does that concern me? How did that put food on my table? How can I get more money from the government? That’s what I want to know about. They can put the TV show wherever they want, put a tape in and record it. It’s the same thing. “The McLaughlin Group” people should be put out to pasture. I’m old, but I know when it’s time to get out. Why pay attention to them? These old people should talk to the young people and learn something.

Why was there a gasoline price raise recently of 20 cents per gallon? We’ve got such a surplus of gasoline and then they raise the cost 20 cents. I can’t believe it. In South Carolina at the same time, gasoline was $1.24 a gallon while we were at $1.79 a gallon. We’re fools.

President Obama should have been a foreign president. He’s giving billions and billions of dollars to foreign aid and foreign countries. We’re fighting foreign wars. For what? It’ll be a blessing when you get out of office. To me, you sold America out. You’re disgusting. I don’t know why you weren’t impeached. I don’t care. You’re disgusting.

To Ted in Homer Glen: Unions have done great things. People wouldn’t be making the wages they are if it weren’t for unions. That’s why Gov. Bruce Rauner wants to get rid of them. He knows he can pay less money and benefits if there’s no union fighting for you. You obviously are another rich Republican who has nothing better to do than attack the middle class, but unions are a strong point we need. The only thing your Rauner is doing is ruining the state budget and stopping programs for people like seniors who need Meals on Wheels. Rauner doesn’t care. You can keep sticking up for Rauner, but other people have a right not to like Rauner.

One of the commenters wants to know why so many were shot in January in Chicago; nearly 300. What’s wrong with this picture and about the Second Amendment? What’s wrong with the picture is law-abiding citizens aren’t allowed to carry their weapons into a variety of locations. Every time you see that logo with the gun with the line through it, you might as well put a flashing red light out front that says, “Come and get it, because we’re all victims in here.” Criminals pay no attention to any amendment. They do what they choose. They’re the ones with the weapons. The thing that’s wrong with the picture is the law-abiding citizens need to be able to defend themselves.

A recent commenter in Speak Out mentioned that perhaps in order to stop all the killings on Chicago’s West Side and the South Side, they should assign black police officers to those areas. Well, that ain’t going to work because, first of all, those officers will be outnumbered and outgunned. What officer in their right mind would want to go into those areas?
