The Oak Park Art League earned serious Big Hair cred on Feb. 27. “Wig Out!” the League’s Second Annual Costume Ball Fundraiser held at Wire nightclub in Berwyn, was a towering success of beehives, brightly colored bobs and George Washingtons.
Featuring a Celebrity “Big Wig” Lip Sync Battle by village leaders Anan Abu-Taleb, mayor of Oak Park, Anthony Calderone of Forest Park and Cathy Adduci of River Forest, the gala included live music, cocktails, a silent auction of original artworks and a live auction. It concluded with the crowning of a King and Queen Royal Hairness.
The evening doubled the attendance and funds raised over last year at the 2015 Retro Prom, with more than 200 guests attending and $25,000 raised in 2016, according to Julie Carpenter, OPAL executive director.
“A lot of (the money raised) is going to support upkeep of our historic building, but we also hope to support art for social change, which is art that will support conversations critical to our community,” said Jen McNulty, president of the Art League’s Board of Directors.
