Chicago police were conducting a death investigation after a man apparently fell or jumped from a Gold Coast neighborhood building.

Police were called to the first block of East Walton Place, near State Street, about 1:30 p.m. following a report of a person down, and found the man, believed to be in his 30s or early 40s, said Officer Bari Lemmon, a police spokeswoman.

The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives were conducting a death investigation to determine what happened to the man.
