Perdue Foods LLC is recalling approximately 4,530 pounds of chicken nugget products produced for Applegate Farms that may be contaminated with plastic materials, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Saturday.
The product subject to the recall is the 8-ounce boxed package containing about 18 pieces of Applegate Naturals Chicken Nuggets with a “best before” date of Sept. 27, 2016.
The products subject to the recall bear the establishment number “P-2617” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail distribution centers in Pennsylvania and New York, as well as Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts and Texas.
Consumers have complained about small, solid, clear plastic inside the nuggets, though there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the product, said a statement released by the USDA on Saturday.
Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. They should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase, USDA officials said.
