Crown Point police are looking for help in identifying a man involved in the armed robbery Monday of the Dollar General store at 221 N. Main St.
Assistant Chief James Janda said the man entered the Dollar General Store around 10:15 a.m. Monday and asked for Rolaids. He then returned to the cash register and demanded money, Janda said.
“The suspect then reached into his coat and gave the clerk a yellow plastic bag, telling her to put the money in it. He threatened the clerk by placing his hand into his coat and grabbing the handle of a dark colored hand gun,” Janda said.
The man threatened to use the gun if the clerk didn’t hurry, Janda said. He exited the store with between about $300 and $400 in cash and fled the area southbound on foot.
Janda said the suspect is a white male with a slender to medium build, average height and no facial hair. He is believed to be between 30 and 40 years old and was wearing a dark-colored stocking hat, dark sunglasses, a tan-hooded Carhart jacket with a dark lining, blue jeans and tennis shoes.
Anyone with information about the man or anyone who may have seen something at the time of the robbery are asked to contact Detective Sgt. Norm Isaacs at 219-663-2131, Ext. 129.
Information also can be reported to the police department’s Anonymous Tip Line at 219-773-2131, Ext. 265.
