April’s opening days featured a variety of weather. On Saturday, northwest winds gusting near 60 mph swept 30 degree temperatures and measurable snow across the area. Sunday brought southwest winds measuring more than 45 mph and readings in the 70s. The temperature change was equivalent of going from mid-February weather to mid-May in less than 24 hours. The drastic weather change occurred as the second in a series of storm systems that swept across the western Great Lakes. Zones of large temperature contrasts often are accompanied by strong winds. While residents of eastern Iowa basked in 80 degree warmth late Sunday, heavy snow was falling across northern Michigan. Northeast winds on Monday mean we’ll be back in the cold for the start of the workweek.
