A Naperville man was killed after he apparently drove his motorcycle into the rear of a sport utility vehicle on Interstate 55 near Bolingbrook, the Illinois State Police said.
Brian Readus, 45, of the 2000 block of Idaho Road in Naperville’s Woodlake neighborhood, was pronounced dead at 3:41 p.m. Thursday at Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital, according to the Will County coroner’s office. An autopsy was conducted Friday, but the cause of Readus’ death will not be known for several weeks.
State police Sgt. C. Wilkes said the crash occurred about 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the northbound lanes of I-55, just south of Route 53.
Readus was alone on a motorcycle and directly behind a Dodge Durango carrying a driver and a passenger, Wilkes said. An investigation concluded that “for unknown reasons, (Readus) crashed into the rear of the SUV,” Wilkes said.
No one in the SUV was injured. The crash remains under investigation, Wilkes said.
An examination of court records revealed Readus was ticketed nine times in DuPage and Will counties for speeding and other traffic violations, including one on July 31 in which Bolingbrook police said he was driving 35 mph or more over the posted speed limit. He was later placed on a year of conditional discharge and fined $350 in that case, Will County court records showed.
Funeral arrangements for Readus were pending Friday afternoon.
