The Village of Northbrook and the Northbrook Park District will hold the village’s annual Earth Day/Arbor Day events Saturday, April 16, at Village Green Park, Meadow and Shermer roads.

Green-friendly organizations and businesses will be set up in the park from 9 a.m. until noon, with giveaways including free tree seedlings, and a tree raffle.

Volunteers who want to join the annual volunteer cleanup effort should come to the park at 8:30 a.m. for assignments. This year, six special items will be hidden in the cleanup areas, which can be returned for prizes.

At 11 a.m., the Park District will hold an Earth Day/Arbor Day tree planting in the park.

Residents can drop off the following hard-to-recycle items from 8:30 until noon at the main Metra commuter lot, west of the station at 1401 Shermer Road:

* Paint (Oil and latex only. No thinners or solvents)

* Molded foam packing material

* Tires

* Used CFL , LED and fluorescent tube bulbs

* Printer cartridges

* Household batteries

* Computers, television sets and other electronic equipment

* Bicycles

* New and used household goods and clothing
