I recently read an article in the newspaper about a proposed bill so that immigrants who are here illegally can go to school for free. What about the American citizens that have kids that want to go to school? They shouldn’t be discriminated against because they’re being forced to pay for school education and they can’t pay for it. You can’t pick and choose who you want to give free education to. If these kids are here illegally, they should have thought about that and gone the legal way to get citizenship, not sneak in under the borders and try to get free everything that they can out of the United States.
This is for John from Bridgeport: I would just like to let him know there are a lot of Vietnam War veterans that have no problems with their children or their grandchildren supporting Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. Everybody has a choice, John.
Every time a Republican representative opens his mouth, he says we’re spending more money than we have. He’s absolutely right, but what they neglect to mention is that because of all the loopholes they have passed to provide for corporations and multimillionaires who are not paying their fair share of taxes, there’s a reason why we’re spending more than we’re taking in. Companies like General Electric allegedly have paid no taxes at all, and 25 percent of the corporations in this country pay no taxes. The ones that do pay taxes probably are offshore and hide a great deal of their profits so they don’t have to be taxed on them.
To all these college kids or younger kids that think that Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is their hero with free education and everything: Who do they think is going to come up with the taxes to pay for this stuff after they get out of school? If they don’t realize it’s going to be them, then I don’t know where their thinking is at.
How times have changed. In 1944, those who were 20-some years old were storming the beaches of Normandy in France as part of World War II. Now in 2016, they’re still living at home with their parents and they have timeouts for hurt feelings. Awww.

Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he’ll eat forever. Give a man someone else’s fish and you’ll have a lifetime Democratic voter.

I think this budget impasse is ridiculous. I believe that all elected officials should lose a day’s pay for every day the budget is not passed. Maybe if they are hit in their pocketbooks, they will feel a little bit like the people in this state who depend on funds from the budget. Sorry I voted for Rauner and glad I don’t have to vote for Madigan.

The way we’re going, ISIS won’t have to do a damn thing to destroy us. We’re no longer united. Racial and political relations, along with “political correctness,” will do it for them. If we don’t eliminate these three, we’ll implode sooner rather than later.

This is for Tom from Burbank: My God, man, get a life. How in the world could you even think to put any blame on the people that Hastert has hurt? It was only one collecting the money, which he more than deserved for what Hastert had done to him and the others. He should go to prison for life. Shame on you Tom.

What good does a state police car do carefully tucked away in the garage after a work shift? I live in the newer section of Brookside Glen in Tinley Park, and all the Cook County police and Tinley Park police boldly protect the neighborhood by displaying their cars. I feel protected, as I should. If the state trooper doesn’t want to display his car and serve the neighborhood, he needs to rethink his career.
