SOUTH FLORIDA OFFSHORE: Capt. Chris Lemieux of Boynton Beach caught tuna, dolphin, snappers and a few kingfish this week fishing out of Boynton Inlet. He said most of the tunas were in 140-190 feet, the kings were in 80-110 and vermilion snappers were biting in 220-250.
THE KEYS: Richard Stanczyk of Bud N’ Mary’s Marina in Islamorada said charter boats had dolphin up to 41 pounds, along with tripletails and swordfish. Anglers on the Miss Islamorada party boat caught yellowtail, mangrove and mutton snappers.
SOUTH FLORIDA INSHORE: Tarpon fishing was much improved this week in the Keys, with lots of big fish biting. Snook, redfish and sea trout were biting in Everglades National Park.
EVERGLADES/FRESHWATER: Capt. Alan Zaremba of Hollywood reported that water levels were rising in Everglades canals because of the rain, so you have to work a little harder to catch largemouth bass. Stick worms, ribbontail worms and jerkbaits were the best lures. Peacock bass were biting in the Lake Ida chain of lakes.
LAKE OKEECHOBEE: Water levels are up with all the recent rains and moving of the excess water into the lake, so the best bet is to look for schooling bass in the morning, then fish the outer grass beds with stick worms, swimbaits and shiners. The bluegill bite has been good using crickets and worms.
