I heard recently about a young man who’s a supporter of presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Now when I say “young man,” I mean a third-grader. He went to school in California with Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” hat on his head and it was even signed by Donald Trump. The school said, “No, no, you can’t wear that.” Well, I guess maybe they’re kind of wondering if the child might influence the third- and fourth-graders. Yeah, you wouldn’t want that to happen.

I’m a Democrat and I was going to vote for Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. But now that he’s a turncoat, I’m going to have to vote for presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump. I’m going to vote completely Republican except for U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, because he’s a traitor too.
Based on the bankruptcy and auction of both major Standardbred racetracks, does it make sense that the Chicago High School for Agricultural Sciences in Mount Greenwood is still breeding? The key to responsible breeding and ensuring quality long-term life for the young horses is a healthy market. Horses that have no value go to auction for international meat markets. I know the school produces cattle and pigs for meat, but horses too?

Regarding the sudden dismissal of Principal Ryan Pitcock: The student in question did not follow protocol and have her poem approved prior to the talent show. Because of that infraction, Mr. Pitcock gave her a consequence: No prom, for which she again flaunted the rules and showed up anyway. It seems that the tail is wagging the dog here, folks. As a taxpayer in the H-F community, I want a more cogent explanation for this dismissal.

They say we cannot stop the paychecks from our elected officials in Springfield, but I bet we would have a budget if they were to lose 2 percent of their pension for every week that they did not pass one.

In the real world, when a company is doing bad in order to stay open, employees take pay cuts and benefit cuts in order to stay employed. The State of Illinois has been in trouble a long time. Our politicians in Springfield all need to take pay cuts and benefit cuts to help out the taxpayers. Taxpayers cannot continue to be buried with tax hikes. Everyone wants a raise and better benefits. Reality check, we are not getting those things so they should they?

They’re keeping the printer busy. How much did it cost Tinley Park taxpayers for the oversized postcards mailed to every home to tell us our water is safe? Wouldn’t the village website, social media, a newspaper item or online newsletter have accomplished the same thing at little to no cost? How well they spend our money to support their friends.

Two of the worst changes the Southtown made was changing the size of the paper and now “Marmaduke” is gone. It would be great if you got rid of “Ask Amy” with her liberal answers, and made a full-size page of “Marmaduke.”

After the Orlando shootings, the spin masters went right to work demanding more “gun control” for “our safety,” of course. Let me remind you that years ago in a place called Wounded Knee, the “government” wanted to disarm some people for their own safety which resulted in the mass murder of some 300 men, women and children, all to force a lifestyle on those people that they did not want. This government continues to this day to force things on people they don’t want. Is it only a matter of time before a forced change comes to your door?

I’m all for people’s rights to own guns for protection or pleasure. I’m sure, though, our forefathers didn’t envision guns having the capability of spewing out 100 bullets in 10 seconds. They had musket balls. Probably, two per minute. Using a little “common sense,” why doesn’t Congress come to agreement, introduce a bill that would prohibit or at least limit “public ownership” of handguns and rifles with clips over 10 rounds after proper vetting? Only the law and military would have authority above that. Of course, this wouldn’t completely stop these terrorist mass-shooting sprees, but it’d sure as heck cut them back. It’d also show us once and for all if the NRA cares more about us or if they’re in the pockets of gun manufacturers.

To the writers who keep harping that if Hillary Clinton gets elected, she will be taking their guns away: Do you mean like President Obama did? People have been saying the same about him for the past eight years. It’s not going to happen people, even though Hillary, like many of us, thinks there should be more regulations. I mean, if I can no longer buy Jarts (the lawn dart game) as they were banned because the semi-pointed tip could injure or kill someone, why can people still own military-style, semi-automatic weapons whose only purpose is to kill other human beings efficiently?
Red, Chicago
To Al from Tinley Park: Really? Just because the firearm a person owns is semiautomatic, they are a potential terrorist? Take some of that “common sense” gun control you like and see if you can apply it to your own reasoning.

I read the post of a lady complaining about illegal fireworks in Tinley Park and the police looking the other way. Well, as a retired policeman in a south suburb, I can tell you they are not only illegal but extremely dangerous. Back in early ’80s a guy lit a large Roman candle-type projectile and when the wick burned out without igniting, he then looked down the barrel of said firework, and the illegal firework went off. Yup, blew his face off and he died immediately. This was in a tow yard in Calumet City.

Go check out the New Lenox forum and see what they’re saying. Apparently, the Democrats have not read the 800 pages in the latest report on Benghazi, and of all the lies told to the Americans by Hillary and the Obama administration. Hardly what you call a conspiracy.
To Joe: Pat Tillman is a true hero, not Ali. Pat Tillman gave up a career in the NFL to join the military. He did not run from a fight; he ran to the fight. God bless all the brave men and women in our military.
Earl, Tinley
ISIS did not grow and develop under George W. Bush. It has grown up and flourished under Obama’s watch after he decided to pull all of the troops out prematurely from Iraq. He is the one who nonchalantly called them the JV team and a disorganized bunch of hooligans. They were nothing to fear.
In response to Joe, who claims that Ali’s moral stand over money and freedom makes him a hero. I feel that is a bunch of hogwash. Ali slapped every veteran in the face by what he did. Did Ali live in poverty? Never once did he say he was grateful to these veterans that did sacrifice life and limb so that he could have the freedom to make his millions.

To Don from Orland Park: Of course they have parades for white Christian straight people. Just don’t forget your white hood. Seriously though, get your friends together and get a parade permit for whatever type of parade you want. No one is stopping you.
