Police say they hope to identify a man who robbed a Griffith convenience store Wednesday night at gunpoint.
Shortly before 10 p.m., a man entered Ridge Foods, 819 E. Ridge Road, pointed a small semi-automatic handgun at the cashier, and demanded money and a carton of Newport 100s cigarettes, police investigations Cmdr. Keith Martin said. The employee complied. The man then ordered the clerk to the floor before running out the door. A witness who was outside saw a man matching the description running west behind the building, Martin said.
Officers checked the area and also used a K-9 officer but came up empty, Martin said.
The man is described as average height and weight, with a scruffy beard. He wore a long-sleeved shirt, faded blue jeans, black or dark-brown boots, and a black baseball cap with a white plaid front panel and bill.
