
Butler Elementary District 53 is seeking a new principal for Brook Forest School, following the resignation of Kelly Voliva.
Voliva was a special education director for District 53 and Pleasantdale Elementary District 107, which serves student in portions of Burr Ridge, Western Springs and Indian Head Park, before becoming the Brook Forest principal three years ago. She submitted her letter of resignation Fridayfor consideration by the District 53 Board, which approved it Monday.
Superintendent Heidi Wennstrom said in a statement that she has been working closely with assistant principal Lisa Owen to ensure teachers have the support they need to prepare for the new school year, which stars Aug. 22.
“While I recognize that the timing is difficult, I am confident that our excellent faculty and staff will work together to ensure that we continue to provide our students with the rich and fulfilling learning experience they have come to expect,” Wennstrom said.
District 53 Board President Alan Hanzlik said the process has started to find a successor to Voliva. A search is being conducted by educational leadership search consultant BWP and Associates.
The district listed qualities being sought in a new principal to include experience as a principal in a similar high-performing environment, a strong and proven background in instructional leadership, the ability to develop relationships with staff and parents and to work with a high-expectation parent population, and a proven track record of success.
District officials are looking for someone who is available to be interviewed within the next two weeks and start work as soon as possible.
