Hot and humid weather will continue throughout the Chicago area Thursday with temperatures expected to top 90 for the 15th time this year at O’Hare International Airport and the 22nd time at Midway Airport.
Uncomfortable humidity levels will be the rule as dew points rise well into the 70s, sending the heat index as high as 105. Though clouds may build in the afternoon, thunderstorm activity should hold off until at least evening and become more likely overnight into Friday. The high atmospheric moisture levels will raise the chances of flooding downpours, and the energetic atmospheric conditions could trigger some strong, gusty thunderstorms.
The storms should exit the area by early Saturday morning, setting the stage for a sunny and comfortably warm mid-August weekend. Dry and seasonably warm weather will continue into the middle of next week.
