Mechanical problems Monday morning caused delays as long as 50 minutes on Metra Union Pacific West trains to Chicago, officials said.
The first problem happened on train No. 30 near the Wheaton and College Avenue stations, said Meg Reile, spokeswoman for Metra. That train had been scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:15 a.m.
Train No. 32, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 8:23 a.m., tried to push the train but was unable to and caused a second mechanical problem. Reile said those two trains were canceled, and passengers were accommodated by different trains.
Delays ranged from 20 to 50 minutes as trains switched tracks.
