All the current controversy raised by some NFL players kneeling during the playing of the national anthem makes wonder once again — why is our national anthem played before sporting events, both large and small? These are not patriotic events. We do not go to those events to celebrate our country and its heritage. These games and races are competitions. At the professional level participants get paid, oftentimes huge sums of money. These events are a big business. The playing of our anthem at any and everything makes it common and in my mind cheapens it. A national anthem should be about pride of country, not signal the start of a competition.

What would you do if you saw any person, especially a presidential candidate, suddenly collapse? That’s exactly what happened to Clinton. She suddenly collapsed. Obviously, you’d take that person to the nearest hospital. Her liberal “deflect her health condition” soldiers, though, first thoughts were to cover it up, take her home and much later say, “She has pneumonia.” This, to many, is just another example of the “liberal Democrat” ideology — deny facts; deflect; blame something or someone else. This certainly shouldn’t have happened to a person who’s a candidate in line for the presidency of the United States.

Hillary Clinton took it upon herself to categorize millions of Americans as racist bigots. You don’t buy her point of view? You must wear a white robe with a pointy hat. You have a prideful interest in your own race’s traditions and culture? Shine up those jack boots. You don’t accept her leftist “progressive” philosophy? Start shaving that pate of yours, you skinhead. You see, if you ain’t in the Hillary camp, you must be some kind of card-carrying racist bigot; so says she and her automaton acolytes.

Sen. Dick Durbin is misleading citizens again. He is complaining about the failure of for-profit schools. However, none of these schools could attract students without aid from the federal government. Why is the federal government providing financial aid to students attending non-accredited schools? Sen. Durbin and Congress are accomplices in this scam.

Mrs. Clinton has dedicated her life to public service. In her many capacities, she has done nothing to disqualify her from the highest office. No Republican approaches her in integrity, ability and experience. Particularly the huckster Trump.

Well, at least the Southtown doesn’t pretend to be unbiased. Clearly your “Nation & World” writers are ready to cancel the election and crown Hillary Clinton, “queen of the world”. This page has gotten sickening with constant Trump bashing. Why quote Obama? He is not running for anything, and who do you think he is going to support? And then you wonder why newspapers are in decline.

Lincoln-Way Superintendent Scott Tingley inherited a mess. The test scores seem to be good. The athletic teams seem to be OK, and the students have combined successfully. Why can’t the media and the critics get off his back? Where do they think they would find someone they can manipulate and who would solve all the perceived problems? No previously successful person would lay their career on the line for such a job. Enough is enough.
