A Burger King restaurant in Lockport caught fire Monday evening, bringing firefighters from surrounding communities to help, officials said.
A call came in just before 7 p.m. from the restaurant, 919 E. 9th St., officials said.
“Companies arrived to find the building full of smoke and visible fire,” Lockport Fire Chief David Skoryi said in a statement. “The alarm was upgraded,” brining fire departments from Homer, Northwest Homer and Romeoville to the scene, he said.
About four other fire departments also responded to Lockport’s fire stations to cover in the event additional calls came while all Lockport’s engines were at the Burger King, he said.
All of the people inside the restaurant were able to evacuate before the fire department arrived and no injuries were reported.
“The fire was challenging to extinguish, as it traveled into the attic and the facade, but firefighters were able to stop the spread to the remainder of the structure,” according to the statement.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, however Skoryi said that it is not believed to be a grease fire.
