Naperville firefighters responded to two kitchen grease fires Sunday afternoon, leaving one apartment unit and another restaurant kitchen uninhabitable.
The first fire was reported about 2:44 p.m. in an apartment building on the 1400 block of Fairway Drive, according to a Naperville Fire Department press release. The second fire was reported about 3:29 p.m. in a strip mall on the 1500 block of North Aurora Road.
Firefighters responded within five minutes of the first 911 call to find the smell of smoke and a slight haze inside the apartment building, according to a press release. Firefighters searching the complex found a small cabinet fire in one of the kitchens.
Residents were evacuated and the fire was extinguished within 10 minutes, according to the press release. No other units were damaged and residents of those apartments were allowed to return.
Not long after, firefighters responded to calls of a second fire in a North Aurora Road strip mall restaurant, according to the press release.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the restaurant’s fire extinguish system had put out the flames, according to the press release. No other parts of the building were damaged, and the surrounding businesses were found to be safe.
No injuries were reported from either fire, according to the press release.
