A Lake County Superior Court judge announced he’s leaving the bench in October.
Circuit Court Judge George Paras will cede his seat on the bench on Oct. 15, according to the Indiana Supreme Court, and will temporarily be replaced by Judge Thomas Webber Sr.
The temporary appointment will continue until Paras’ successor is elected.
Paras, a Democrat, was first elected to the Circuit Court in 2010.
Paras lost his re-election bid during the 2016 Democratic primary. Marissa McDermott, of Hammond, defeated the sitting judge and a third candidate, Carrie Castro.
McDermott will face Republican Douglas Grimes, of Gary, in the November election.
