With a municipal election only six months away, you’d think the staff our elected officials have kept in place would be working overtime to make our village look like a community worth our ridiculously high property tax bills and their generous pay packages. Instead, we continue to see the same displays of decline and deterioration with no evidence of urgency to do anything about it. Is the power of incumbency that impervious that they don’t have to care?

Tinley Park is hiring a firm to do a salary study, comparing other municipal employee salaries to theirs. Most likely, bloated salaries, as they are in government, will be comparable. A better alternative would have been a comparative productivity, qualification and accomplishment study.

Hillary Clinton was in Florida trying to incite her audience of the way Donald Trump has supposedly treated women. She said, “I am outraged” at this. She cares about women. I wonder where her “outrage” for women was when she sat and defended “Billy Boo-Boo” when all his affairs became public? She didn’t care about them then. She’s once again lying about her concern now. Her only concern was and is, power.

Layer upon layer of regulations and protocol. Plus rules that are not entirely clear. That is why nothing gets done. That is from Julius Caesar in about 60 B.C. concerning the state of government. So you see some things just do not change with time.

I, for one, am looking forward to Nov. 9. No matter who wins or loses, it will end the barrage of negative campaign advertisements that spoil my enjoyment of my favorite shows and sporting events. No candidate wants to tell me what policies and programs he/she will support if elected. No candidate will tell me what qualifications he/she possesses that make him/her the superior choice. I only hear that their opponent is corrupt or just plain evil for supporting or being supported by Mike Madigan or Donald Trump/Bruce Rauner. When an election is this negative all you can do is hold your nose and vote for the candidate you hope is the lesser evil.
