Craig Eisner has lived in Glencoe for 21 years. He is a recently retired marketing executive who now manages family investments while overseeing responsibilities at home.

Q: What are you enjoying the most about retirement?

A: I’m able to support my family, as my wife is the managing partner of the Chicago office for a global law firm. We have a high school senior, so I am making sure I am taking care of things at home. I help to make sure that things keep moving so all the home responsibilities are taken care of.

Q: Is there an aspect of retirement that you find yourself enjoying more than you thought you would?

A: I’m able to spend more time on our investments than I did before. When you are working, you go to work with your three to five priorities that you need to knock out. When you transition to retirement, you find that you still have your three to five priorities and you know that need to have your three to five priorities every day, so that you have a purpose for what you are doing at home.

I also think if the retirement is planned, and in my case it was planned, things go more smoothly as you have time in advance to plan for what you want to do. But you have to have the three to five priorities or you will go crazy.

Q: Is there something you don’t like about retirement?

A: I miss the folks I work with and the social aspect. I don’t miss the daily commute on the train, but I do miss downtown.

Q: Are you relieved the election is over?

A: It’s time to bring people together and enough of the loud noise on television.
