Satellite imagery Monday evening showed a vigorous weather disturbance swirling across the southern Rockies, spawning thunderstorms in New Mexico, and causing clouds to blossom over the Plains. This disturbance is forecast to affect weather across the Midwest on Tuesday night and Wednesday. Precipitation may reach the Chicago area late Tuesday evening, likely beginning as a mixture of snow and sleet. Temperatures are expected to hover just above freezing, then slowly rise to the mid- and upper 30s overnight as southeast winds strengthen. Though the bulk of precipitation with this system will be rain, wet roads could slow Thanksgiving Eve travel. Low, heavy overcast may affect local airports. Dreary weather is forecast to persist early Thanksgiving Day, before weather improves and clouds break.
