Each week New Homes Marketplace asks questions of area homebuilders. Andrew Konovodoff, president of K. Hovnanian Homes Illinois Division, provides this week’s answers.
Q: Does your company only build select plans or can I make modifications, or even start from scratch on a plan specific to my needs?
— Jack, Naperville
A: We determine what home designs we will build at each community before we develop the land. This way, we can bid out the plans one time to get the best value to our customers. One of the things that makes us different than most builders in the Chicago market is our ability to make small changes to our designs at each community. This allows our customers to truly personalize the home to their liking.
Q: What is the most unusual request you’ve gotten from a client to add to the new home?
— Ed, Frankfort
A: Since we aren’t a custom builder, we generally don’t get asked to make elaborate changes to a floor plan or overall design. We have, however, added a fourth car garage, made ornate changes in the master bath and revised kitchen layouts to meet the customer’s needs.
