Billy Eichner gave a shoutout to his former Northwestern University acting teacher in an unusual way on Tuesday’s Season 5 finale of “Billy on the Street.”

Eichner, 38, welcomed fellow Northwestern graduate Stephen Colbert on his TruTV pop-culture-themed game show and immediately brought up their Northwestern connection.

“You had (Northwestern associate professor) Ann Woodworth, I had the wonderful Mary Poole. Shoutout to Mary Poole, my acting teacher at Northwestern. She doesn’t watch TV though,” Eichner said.

“Well, ’cause, why? Why doesn’t she watch TV?” said Colbert, host of CBS’ “The Late Show.”

“Because she’s watching YouTube, Stephen. No, because she’s an acting teacher and she, like, reads plays and stuff,” Eichner said.

“But people act on TV,” Colbert said.

“Not me,” Eichner said.

The Tribune reached out to Poole, who still teaches at Northwestern, to see if she does, in fact, watch TV. Poole said in an email that she “treasure(s) the final image of ‘Hairspray’ live with Billy dancing!” Eichner starred in NBC’s live “Hairspray” special last month.

On “Billy on the Street,” Colbert and Eichner asked New Yorkers to share their thoughts about President Donald Trump. They also played a game in which Eichner read a quote and Colbert determined if the line was said in the movie “La La Land” or by rapper Nicki Minaj.
