Notre Dame officially added to its list of new players for 2017 when it announced that wide receiver Freddy Canteen will arrive from Michigan as a graduate transfer.
Canteen appeared in 16 games for the Wolverines in 2014 and 2015, catching six passes for 22 yards and a touchdown. He did not play last season after having multiple shoulder surgeries.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder has two years of eligibility left.
The Irish are scheduled to face Michigan in the 2018 season opener.
“Freddy will bring some speed and athleticism to our wide receiver group,” Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said in a statement. “Our receivers and offense will benefit greatly from his addition.”
Canteen said in early February he was going to transfer to the South Bend, Ind., school.
“I’m excited to start this new chapter in my life and can’t wait to get going with my new teammates,” Canteen said in a statement.
Canteen already is somewhat familiar with a few of them, having played against Brandon Wimbush, Jimmy Byrne, Liam Eichenberg and Shaun Crawford in high school.
That’s the ticket: Tickets for the annual Blue-Gold spring gam, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Central time April 22, went on sale Wednesday.
The scrimmage will be played at still-being-renovated Notre Dame Stadium. Only 25,000 tickets will be available.
