Creative outlets will abound during the third annual Family Fine Arts Day, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 11 at the Community Recreation Center, 3000 Glenview Road, Wilmette.

You and your children, ages 3 and older, can paint with watercolors or acrylics or work in mixed media. There will also be DIY stations throughout the building where you can create candles or magnets or work with plaster and charcoal.

Julie Nichols, Wilmette Park District’s Center for the Arts Supervisor, said the event was created to encourage “families to come out and get messy, try new mediums and make art with materials and supplies they may not have at home.”

Nichols noted that the event provides “a wonderful combination of staff-led projects and volunteer-assisted do-it-yourself stations that results in approximately a dozen opportunities for each child.”

The cost is $9.25 per child for residents; $11.25 for nonresidents. Registration is required. Kids receive event t-shirts.
