Everyone will get a wonderful workout at Mom and Son Sport Night, 6:30-8:15 p.m. March 10 at Sachs Recreation Center, 455 Lake Cook Road, Deerfield. Participants are encouraged to wear their favorite team jersey, “which could be a professional sports team or a local team,” said Ginny Wiemerslage, early childhood recreation supervisor. “We take a photo of them that we post on Facebook.”

Activities will include dodgeball, relays, basketball, soccer and more. Everyone will refuel by making their own sundaes. There will also be a sports trivia quiz and an estimating jar with a prize to the person who comes closest to guessing how many objects are in it. At the end, there will be a ceremony where every child gets a prize.

Wiemerslage noted, “We have a group of moms that really want to play with their child.”

The event is for ages 4-10. The cost is $15 per person for residents; $19 for nonresidents. Registration is required.

Honoring young artists

In celebration of Youth Art Month in Libertyville, there will be an Exhibition Opening and Public Reception, 4-6 p.m. March 5 at the David Adler Music and Arts Center, 1700 N. Milwaukee Ave. Art by the young people is being displayed at Libertyville businesses and organizations.

They’re also celebrating Youth Art Month at Grayslake Area Public Library with an exhibition of works by area young people on display, March 3-24 at 100 Library Lane. Everyone is invited to the opening reception, 6:30-8 p.m. March 3 for kids’ activities, li1ght refreshments and live jazz by the Jim Jacobs Trio.

This is a great time of year for Connecting Kids with Nature. Imaginations will be stirred as you explore the outdoors with your child, 10:30-11:45 a.m. March 9 at Greenbelt Cultural Center, 1215 Green Bay Road, North Chicago. The Lake County Nature Network Event is free.
